Supporting Women and Girls to be physically active

While many of us know that exercising is vital for good physical and mental health, that doesn’t change the fact that many women and girls aren’t getting enough exercise.
Why? Women and girls have told us that a big part of not trying new activities or getting involved in sport or physical activity is a fear of being judged, not being fit enough to start, or the environments are not welcoming.

In 2021, Bellarine Community Health has been a supporter of the range of activities during ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, an initiative by Vic Health, which encourages women and girls to participate in physical activities regardless of age or ability. Together with our partners, we designed a suite of ‘Come and Try’ sessions across the Bellarine.

The sessions were well attended by over 150 women and girls, some came along to try a new activity and some came along to take up the activity they had not done for a long time.  Here are some pics of some of the women and girls who participated in the events.
