General Practice Clinic - Portarlington

Bellarine Community Health (BCH) GP Clinic Portarlington is a purpose built private medical practice which aims to provide exceptional standards of healthcare services to our community.

Our Doctors and allied healthcare practitioners are committed to delivering outstanding medical support to patients of all ages and their families.

In addition to our GP & Nursing services, we offer a range of allied health services including, but not limited to, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Speech Pathology, Nutrition & Dietetics, Counselling, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, we currently offer telehealth to existing and new clients. We also offer home visits, which are generally for patients who are too ill or lack mobility to attend the GP Clinic.

We provide services related to NDIS, DVA and GP care plans.

Children's Services

Immunisations

Immunisations help protect children from the most serious childhood infections, some of which may threaten their lives. We offer a comprehensive immunisation service to children of all ages in a safe and happy environment in accordance with the Australian vaccination schedule:

  • Hepatitis B (HepB)
  • Infanrix Hexa
  • Prevenar, pneumovax
  • Rotarix
  • MMR II
  • Nimenrix
  • ActHIB
  • Infanrix IPV

You will be provided with a handout of possible side effects as well as an update to your birth and child health record. All immunisations transmit via the data base to medicare for your childhood health records at MyGov.com. The most common side effects include a mild fever and pain at the injection site.

Please advise prior to attending your appointment, if you require an immunisation.

Skin conditions and allergies

Many things can cause skin conditions or rashes in babies and children, and they’re often nothing to worry about however there may be times when a GP or hospital visit is required.

Whatever their age, you should make an appointment with one of our GP’s if they have a rash and persistent high temperature, cold or cough symptoms or swollen neck glands.

You can read more about series childhood rashes here. If you are worried about allergies that your child has, start by making an appointment with one of our GP’s. If things are more serious, one of our GP’s can refer you to an allergy and immunology specialist.

Bladder/Bowel problems

It is important to speak to one of our GP’s if you are concerned with your child’s bladder and/or bowel problems. Our GP’s may refer you to our Children’s Continence Clinic which assists parent and caregivers managing child bladder and/or bowel problems.

Medicare Rebates

To be eligible for a Medicare Rebate, please ensure you bring your Medicare card to your appointment. Following your appointment, you are required to pay in full and we will submit this to Medicare immediately. You will then receive the Medicare Rebate to your registered bank details, usually same day.

Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend for a scheduled appointment, please advise the team in advance to reschedule or cancel your appointment. A fee will be charged for failure to attend or cancellation at short notice. You cannot claim this charge through Medicare.

Fee Statement

BCH receives no special funding from State or Federal Governments to support the clinic. In order to deliver high-level quality services, the clinic needs to remain financially viable and a fee schedule has been developed accordingly. BCH is committed to ensuring that people suffering financial hardship are not excluded from accessing our services. Our price schedule is heavily discounted for pensioners and health card holds and doctor can bulk bill at their discretion.

Workcover & TAC

We support both WorkCover and TAC patients. WorkCover injuries occur in the workplace, while TAC injuries occur from road traffic accidents. Medicare does not rebate these consultations.

We require patients to pay for their WorkCover or TAC consultations in full. Reimbursement can then be claimed through their employer or insurance company. There is likely be an out-of-pocket cost for this.

The employer will reimburse up to $682 of a WorkCover claim. The initial $629 of a TAC claim must be met by the patient, unless admitted to hospital post accident. Patients may receive a partial Medicare rebate for the services received.

Our health service receives most of its funding from the state and federal government, supplemented by client fees and grants and donations. We are supported by the Australian Government Department of Health and the Victorian Government.
