The Healthy and Connected Communities Team (HCCT), were very busy in 2023, working with our three communities to bring their activities to life!
Here are a few BIG actions which we have now delivered!
- Snorkel and Water Safety Program
We are thrilled to have worked with the Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre and Scubabo Dive to deliver 15 sessions across our three communities. Over 180 students jumped in the water to take part in this program, including excursions held by Leopold and St Leonards Primary School.
- Walk, Ride & Scoot – National Ride2School Day & Ride2School Program
Over 1000 students from the three communities took part in a whole of school active travel campaign, encouraging students to walk, ride, or scoot to school. We received over 400 ‘walk, ride, scoot’ posters, and over 600 students joined in for smoothie bikes! These communities will continue to work on active travel within their school.
- Learn to Skate Program – YMCA All Aboard
We worked with the YMCA All Aboard team to deliver beginner Learn to Skate sessions for children on the Northern Bellarine (St Leonards & Portarlington). Around 130 local children aged 4 – 12 years, took part in this program across seven sessions.
We are now continuing to work with our three communities to build on these actions. We are pleased to announce that two communities recently received a 2023 Landcare grant to continue their Snorkel and Water Safety Program in 2024 – with a stronger focus on outdoor environment and education through the support from Bellarine Catchment Network.
