Bellarine Community Health (BCH) is undertaking an exciting new development to support the health and wellbeing needs of communities in and around Ocean Grove.
Bellarine Community Health has $4 million in funding from the Commonwealth Government through the Department of Health’s Community Health and Hospitals program to develop Stage One of a Health and Wellbeing Hub. The funding was allocated following the 2019 Federal election.
Covid delays and subsequent construction cost escalation has meant the original Commonwealth funding does not allow us to build a large enough facility to deliver the original scope of services. In the period since we received the funding, BCH has renovated our site in Presidents Ave Ocean Grove to accommodate a headspace service to meet their requirements. Service delivery commenced at the headspace site in August 2021.
It has been agreed that the Commonwealth funding for the health and wellbeing centre will now be dedicated to meeting the needs of children and young people on the Bellarine with headspace services continuing to be provided from the nearby location in Ocean Grove.
The Hub will provide a streamlined care pathway by co-locating multi-disciplinary teams, providing an integrated, holistic model of care close to where people live.
Construction of the building has been designed in two stages, and BCH is seeking further funding to complete stage two. Four18 Architects have been appointed to the project.
Family-owned development company Kingston Ocean Grove has gifted a parcel of land in Goodwell Drive in the Kingston Estate in Ocean Grove for the establishment of the new Health and Wellbeing Hub.
Initial site works are underway, and BCH expects Stage One of the building to be completed in late 2024. We will make further information available as the project progresses.
