Bellarine Community Health’s (BCH) exciting new Child, Youth and Family Hub in the Kingston Estate in Ocean Grove is nearing completion.
This exciting new hub, designed by Four18 Architecture and built by Loaram Constructions, will provide modern facilities to support families on the Bellarine.
The Child, Youth and Family Hub has been built especially for children and young people. It has large light spaces, and rooms designed for children including indoor and outdoor therapy spaces, sensory equipment and children’s furniture.
Children’s services moving to the new hub in January 2025 will include speech pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and mental health services including play therapy.
The project has been designed in two stages, but funding has only been secured for stage one. BCH is actively seeking funding, including grants, for construction of stage two.
Bellarine Community Health secured $4 million in funding from the Commonwealth Government through the Department of Health’s Community Health and Hospitals program to develop stage one of the hub. The funding was allocated following the 2019 Federal election.
Covid delays and subsequent construction cost escalation has meant the original Commonwealth funding has not allow BCH to build a large enough facility to deliver the original scope of services.
In the period since BCH received funding, the Presidents Ave Ocean Grove site was renovated to accommodate a headspace service. Service delivery commenced at the headspace site in August 2021.
It has been agreed that the Commonwealth funding for the new health and wellbeing centre be dedicated to meeting the needs of children and young people on the Bellarine with headspace services continuing to be provided from the nearby location in Ocean Grove.
The new Child, Youth and Family Hub will provide a streamlined care pathway by co-locating multi-disciplinary teams, providing an integrated, holistic model of care close to where people live.
Family-owned development company Kingston Ocean Grove gifted a parcel of land in Goodwell Drive in the Kingston Estate in Ocean Grove for the establishment of the hub.
