Call for Expressions of Interest - Board Director Positions

Bellarine Community Health Ltd is seeking Expressions of Interest from professional, experienced and committed individuals to join its Board of Directors. There will be up to 3 positions available from November 2026.

As a member of the Board, you will contribute to the strategic direction, governance, and long-term sustainability of the organisation. We are particularly interested in candidates with professional expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Aged care sector
  • NDIS sector
  • Clinical governance and quality improvement
  • Strategic financial management, risk and audit
  • Law, governance or compliance
  • Clinical and/or nursing or allied health experience
  • Community engagement and advocacy
  • Digital innovation and data governance
  • Fundraising and philanthropy

We welcome expressions of interest from professional individuals who share our commitment to Bellarine Community Health and who can bring diverse perspectives, skills, and lived experiences to the Board.  Demonstrated connection to the Bellarine is desirable, but not essential.

Board Commitment

  • Monthly Board meetings (February through December)
  • Participation in relevant Board Sub-committees as required
  • Attendance at strategic planning and governance activities as required

Term
Directors are appointed for an initial term of 3 years and may be eligible for reappointment in accordance with the Constitution.

Remuneration
A Director is entitled to be paid an annual stipend for their service as a Director, the amount and time of payment as determined by the Board in accordance with the BCH Stipend Policy.  The current stipend is $3,000 per annum.

Board and Constitution

Bellarine Community Health Ltd is registered under the Corporations Act 2001 as a Company Limited by Guarantee and is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board appoints the Chief Executive Officer and supports this role in managing the organisation. The Board of Directors are responsible for the organisation’s governance, policies and objectives and provide the strategic focus for the organisation.

The role of the Board of Directors is to:

  • Govern the organisation;
  • Determine strategic direction and organisation policy;
  • Conduct the finance and audit committee
  • Conduct the quality and safety committee;
  • Approve financial objectives, performance and plans; and
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements and standards of performance.

Board Directors are free from any interest, business or other relationship which could, or reasonably be perceived to, materially interfere with the director’s ability to act in the best interests of the organisation. Board Directors receive an annual stipend to cover attendance at meetings, incidental and travel costs.

Board Directors are responsible for make decisions that are in the best interests of enabling the service to balance competing community health needs and continually improve the provision and accessibility of high quality affordable health care for everyone. The Board of Directors are made up of appointed positions determined by the Board and Elected positions voted by the Financial members of Bellarine Community Health.

Meetings & Sub-Committees

The Board of Directors meets monthly with additional meetings scheduled according to operational or strategic planning requirements. For board summaries please review publications.

The Board has established three committees – the Finance and Audit sub-committee, the Governance sub-committee and the Quality, Safety and risk sub-committee for considering detailed issues and making recommendations to the Board.

Become a member

People living or working in the area serviced by Bellarine Community Health can apply to become a financial member. Members should have an interest in supporting the aims and services of Bellarine Community Health and be willing to understand the complexities of providing health services to meet a broad suite of community needs.

Financial member have the right to attend, be heard and vote at any General Meeting (BCH Constitution sect 4.5.3).  Financial membership is $10.00 per annum.

Advisory Networks

The Board may establish one or more specific purpose advisory networks for specified timeframes and for specified objectives, or in line with legislative obligations. In establishing an advisory network the Board shall provide a charter or terms of reference as to how it requires the advisory network to operate and what it is established to achieve or undertake and will appoint a chair.

BCH Members may be drawn upon to convene an Advisory Network for input to specific topics and/or projects.  Advisory networks serve to make recommendations and/or provide key information to the Board and can be standing (ongoing) or ad hoc in nature.
