Aged Care Employee Day

Celebrating Our Aged Care Heroes: Aged Care Employee Day August 7 2025

Today, we pause to celebrate something truly special at Bellarine Community Health – our incredible aged care employees and volunteers who dedicate their hearts and expertise to supporting our older community members every single day.

You might be surprised to learn just how central aged care is to everything we do at BCH. With over 9,000 clients on our books, almost 60% are over 65 years old. That’s nearly 6,000 people who rely on our compassionate team to help them live their best possible lives, whether that’s in their own homes, accessing vital health services, or receiving the specialized care they need during challenging times.

When people think of aged care, they often picture nursing homes or home care workers – and while our nursing and home care teams are essential, the reality is so much richer. Our aged care employees work across virtually every corner of BCH, creating a comprehensive network of support that touches every aspect of our older clients’ wellbeing.

In our nursing services, our dedicated staff provide clinical care with skill and tenderness. Our home care teams become trusted companions, helping people maintain their independence and dignity in familiar surroundings. When families face the most difficult journeys, our palliative care specialists provide comfort, expertise, and unwavering support.

Our social support programs create vital connections, combating isolation and fostering friendships that light up lives. Our allied health professionals – podiatrists keeping people mobile and pain-free, occupational therapists helping adapt homes and routines for changing needs, and dietitians ensuring proper nutrition – all play crucial roles in maintaining quality of life.

Our mental health counsellors recognise that emotional wellbeing is just as vital as physical health, especially during life’s later chapters when loss, change, and adjustment can feel overwhelming. Even our dental team contributes to aged care, because we know that oral health impacts everything from nutrition to confidence to overall health outcomes.

The Volunteer Spirit

Alongside our professional staff, our volunteers bring something irreplaceable – time, companionship, and community connection. They’re the friendly faces who provide transport to appointments, the patient listeners during social programs, and the helping hands that make so many services possible. Their generosity of spirit embodies the very best of community care.

More Than a Job – A Calling

What strikes us most about our aged care team is how they approach their work not just as employment, but as a calling. They understand that behind every statistic is a person with a lifetime of stories, relationships, hopes, and challenges. They know that a gentle touch, a patient explanation, or simply taking time to really listen can make all the difference in someone’s day.

Looking Forward Together

As we celebrate Aged Care Employee Day 2025, we’re reminded that aging well isn’t just about individual resilience – it’s about having a community that wraps around you with skilled, compassionate support. At BCH, we’re proud to be that community.

To our aged care employees and volunteers: thank you for your dedication, your expertise, and your hearts. You make it possible for thousands of people to age with dignity, maintain connections, and continue contributing to our community in meaningful ways.

And to our older clients and their families: thank you for trusting us with your care. You inspire us every day to be better, to innovate, and to never forget that quality care is always, fundamentally, about human connection.

Here’s to celebrating not just a day, but a commitment – to ensuring that every person in our community can age with the support, respect, and care they deserve.
