Occupational Therapy Week

Celebrating Occupational Therapy Week at BCH

This week, the Occupational Therapy (OT) teams across Bellarine Community Health are celebrating Occupational Therapy Week – a time to recognise the vital role OTs play in supporting health and wellbeing across our community.

Supporting the Bellarine Community Across the Lifespan
Did you know that BCH has Occupational Therapists working in our Child, Youth and Adult teams, providing services to the Bellarine community across the entire lifespan? Our dedicated OT teams work to help people of all ages participate fully in the activities that matter most to them.

Child Occupational Therapy Services
Our child team includes five Occupational Therapists who work with children aged 0-12 years. The team supports children and their families with a range of needs, including:

  • Emotional regulation
  • Independence with daily routines
  • Sensory processing differences
  • Attention and focus

These practitioners help young people develop the skills they need to thrive at home, at school, and in their community.

Youth Mental Health Support
Two Occupational Therapists work within our youth services, providing specialised mental health support to young people. One practitioner works at our Drysdale site as a mental health practitioner, providing counselling and therapeutic interventions. The other works at headspace Ocean Grove as both an intake and engagement practitioner while also offering specific mental health OT interventions.
Youth OT services include:

  • sensory modulation interventions
  • routine and activity scheduling
  • exploring interests and assessing function

The team also provides practical support to young people with neurodiversity, helping them navigate the challenges of adolescence and early adulthood.

Adult Occupational Therapy Team
Five experienced Occupational Therapists, supported by a fantastic Allied Health Assistant, make up our adult OT team. Recently relocated from Point Lonsdale to Drysdale, the team do a lot of their work in home, meeting clients in their own environment where they feel most comfortable.
The adult team receives most referrals from My Aged Care or our Home Care Packages team, providing:

  • Home safety assessments
  • Assistive technology recommendations
  • Home modification advice

The team’s goal is clear: to keep clients living safely and independently in their own homes, optimising their participation in the day-to-day tasks they need or want to do.
